FAITH IS /IS NOT

There is a writing style that attempts to describe a concept by exploring what it is not. This approach helps to remove all misconceptions and ambiguity before presenting the accurate idea of the concept. This approach was used by Paul to describe love in the book of 1 Corinthians 13: 5-7. Let’s apply the same approach to discuss the subject of faith:

Faith Is Not defined by colour
Faith transcends every visible boundary. In Scripture we see: “There is neither Jew nor Greek… for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). This verse powerfully affirms that faith unites across races, statuses, genders, even nationality—breaking chains that divide.

Faith Is Not impressed by status
True faith remains unaffected by social rank. Jesus’ parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector (Luke 18:9–14) contrasts spiritual pride with humble repentance. Faith isn’t about position—it’s about dependence on God. Even our Creator–creature posture reminds us we stand on equal footing before Him.

Faith Is Not partial or favouritist
“God shows no partiality” (Romans 2:11). In Acts 10, Peter learns that the gospel reaches Jew and Gentile alike—faith deliberately avoids favourites. A believing community reflects this truth in everyday inclusion and dignity.

Faith Is Not arrogant—but Is humble
Pride blocks God’s grace: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). Humility isn’t weakness—it’s spiritual openness. As one Redditor reflected:
“Faith and humility are at their root, one faith admits the need for help. Pride won’t.”
Humble faith admits need, submissively invites God in, and receives grace.

Faith Is confident, not conceited
True faith allows bold courage without superiority. Hebrews 4:16 invites believers to “approach the throne of grace with confidence.” Faith rests wholly on Christ’s merit—not on prideful self-reliance.

Faith Is brave
Faith courageously faces the unknown. Hebrews 11 showcases believers like Abraham and Moses—ready to follow God into uncertainty. Humility fosters bravery: by admitting our limitations, faith lets God lead us forward.

Faith Is active—never dormant
James 2:17 warns: “Faith…if it does not have works, is dead.” Genuine faith emerges in deeds—serving others, loving boldly, pursuing justice. As faith activates through love, it becomes visible in everyday life.
Faith is a living tapestry—woven from humility, courage, confidence, love, and action. It’s not defined by appearance, rank, or bias. It’s a bold, humble surrender to a God who loves us all equally.
Where is God inviting your faith to act today?

Reflective Questions
  • Where have I allowed race, status, or bias to shape my faith?
  • Have I approached God with humble boldness—or closed off by pride?
  • How is my faith showing up in my actions this week?
